The Real Book: Sixth Edition by Hal Leonard Corporation is If you're buying the Kindle edition to use while playing in a band, in real time, you may want to rethink that. I play in a jazz ensemble where we've been using the older Real Books for years. We decided to go legit, but i opted for the Kindle versions of Sixth Edition Vol. I and II on my Surface. These are large books and the time it takes to go to the TOC and then to the tune you want is just too long. Searching is no better. Switching between the books is even worse, since Kindle only handles one book at a time. Haven't gotten any feedback on Kindle on iPad, but I would be surprised if it were any better.

The Real Book: Sixth Edition by Hal Leonard Corporation is If you have any interest in playing jazz standards on the piano, and you are familiar with fake books, then you'll want this one in your library. It contains lots of classic numbers, including a few that I never considered playing on solo piano. Be advised that this is called "The Real Book" for a reason. Unlike most fake books, the tunes are in their original keys. They are only simplified to the extent that they only show melodies and chords. Some knowledge of chord notation is necessary. Also be advised that this is real jazz, so there are songs by Mingus, Coltrane, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Thelonius Monk and many other jazz greats that aren't that well known to the general public. There are a few classic pop tunes here, though, from Broadway and the Beatles. The book is comb-bound, so you don't have to wrestle to keep the book open on a page. If I have any complaint, it's only that, at almost 500 letter-sized pages, the book is pretty heavy.

The Real Book: Sixth Edition by Hal Leonard Corporation is I purchased Volume III & IV and returned them. The issue is that the publisher has removed the handwritten title of each tune with an ugly, white rectangle and added another title above it. And thanks to this unnecessary effort, the title and the actual music sheet are split into two pages.Volume I, II, & V doesn't seem to have such problem. With a proper table of contents, all the tunes should be indexable and searchable.
