Level 2A - Theory Book: Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber,Randall Faber
Level 2A - Theory Book: Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber,Randall Faber is This theory book, as well as all the other ones accompanying the other levels, really are a huge added bonus to this series. The theory book follows the lesson book perfectly, unit by unit, allowing the student and teacher to reinforce what is being taught and played. The pages give the student the opportunity to work through and write out what is being performed on the piano in worksheet style. It allows for better comprehension and retention. The composing activities really bring out the lessons as well as allowing creativity to develop in the student. It also helps build the student's musical term vocabulary. Music Theory is its own separate part of studying music that completes the learning process. This book is well worth the 6 bucks!
Level 2A - Theory Book: Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber,Randall Faber is Best for all ages, my students like Bastien at least as well as Faber and Alfreds, probably better. Bastien introduces music better from what I've seen comparing the three series. My students get thru Bastien material faster than Alfreds and Faber. I don't think Bastien is easier - but it builds, preparing students for what is coming more effectively.
Level 2A - Theory Book: Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber,Randall Faber is My students really like these books. They're colorful and the material is presented in a fun, playful context. I have students who remind me to do theory if I forget.
Level 2A - Theory Book: Piano Adventures by Nancy Faber,Randall Faber is I love teaching from this series, using the Lesson, Technique, Performance and Theory books. All the units move forward together and each book offers a different sort of challenge. The theory book functions much like a math workbook, focusing on music theory. It almost always has examples that are very similar to pieces in the lesson, technique and/or performance books, so student cannot help but make the connections with what they are doing during practice. The hardest thing about the theory book is getting the students to complete the pages. I request students complete their theory as part of their first practice session after their lesson, to ward off practicing something "wrong" for a week. It's simply not a favorite--at this level, most students feel like they are wasting time on anything that is not actually playing the piano. This book offers a few pieces, but is mostly a workbook for things like interval training, music "vocabulary", ear training, manuscript writing, and pages that must be completed with the instructor's assistance (ex. sections where instructor plays something and the student must identify which example they heard).I've tried not using it with a few students, but it actually makes a pretty big difference in how much they understand about the music.
