Japan Travel Guide: Things I Wish I Knew Before Going To Japan (2019 NEW EDITION) by Ken Fukuyama is I purchased this book as a kindle book, so my review isn’t going to take into account the physical copy of this book. While not a book I was originally intending to read, I found myself continuing to peruse the tidbits in the book with quite a bit of interest. The first couple of pages make you think you might be in for a small history lesson before you get into the meat of the chapter, but as it turns out, all the information is laid out in individual bite-sized pieces. The information ranges from somewhat common knowledge (anime and the prevalence of cute plushies available for sale) to a little more obscure (there are restaurants at the top of Mount Fuji?). The book doesn’t get bogged down in too many details, but it gives you enough so that you won’t feel entirely unprepared for a trip. The book goes into several tourist attractions, noting various prices for things along the way. A few of these aren’t common in my area of the world (like a fee for using the public restroom), so a general idea of how much that will cost is useful to me. Obviously, helpful information like when to visit certain tourist attractions and if you need tickets to get in is very nice as well. The price listings range from super cheap (stuff to do/buy for the equivalent of a dollar!) to higher priced attractions.I’ll admit, with a title like this, I kind of expected to be reading a book of anecdotes from someone’s time in Japan, but the book is much more like a tourist/visitor’s handbook. Which isn’t bad! It simply wasn’t what I was expecting from the name of the book. All in all, quite a helpful little handbook, I’m hoping I get to use the information in it soon.

Japan Travel Guide: Things I Wish I Knew Before Going To Japan (2019 NEW EDITION) by Ken Fukuyama is What a great little guide! Everything is broken down so neatly, detailing highlights, travel tips, and the prices you can expect for various foods, lodging, and touring options. The photos are absolutely beautiful and the chapter offering a handful of itineraries should especially helpful in sorting out how much time to dedicate to each location you want to visit if your stay is limited.I do wish there had been more information on accessibility (how many of these temples are wheelchair-friendly, for instance?) and dining tips for travelers with dietary restriction (what options are out there for vegetarians and people with shellfish allergies?), but those are topics that could probably warrant their own guides entirely.I have no immediate plans to travel to Japan, but it's always been a dream, and I'm glad that, when the times does come, I will have this book to reference!
