Complete Color Coded Flash Cards for All Beginning Music Students by Alfred Music is These flash cards are a good bang for the buck, and as such warrant greater than three stars. HOWEVER: the claim "Includes all notes, symbols and terms needed for the first two years of study on any musical instrument" is misleading. These cards are clearly made for piano students, and should be advertised as such. Buyers deserve to know this up front. Yes, the flash cards include symbols read by any musician. They also include symbols read ONLY by piano players. (Ain't nobody else's music got the bracket symbol for the piano pedal. No sir!) As a violin teacher, I hoped to use these cards to help my beginners learn to read the notes they will see in violin music. (Yes, there are flash cards made specifically for violin players learning to read their notes. They are more expensive, and do not include all the other symbols these cards have.) One of the first things I did was separate the bass clef notes out. as they do not apply to beginning violinists. I was pleased to see that (uh oh, almost) all the notes a beginning violinist would see on their music are represented. Almost. Unfortunately, there is one very important note missing: open G, the lowest note on the violin, is notated (in violin music) below the treble clef staff. In this set of flash cards it appears in the bass clef, as it would be read by a beginning piano player. I would just like to be told up front that I am buying a product geared to piano students. All that said, I am happy I made the purchase, as there is useful information, and the novelty factor for even one student is worth the price of admission!
Complete Color Coded Flash Cards for All Beginning Music Students by Alfred Music is Good flashcards for students studying music. I think these cards are best for students, not really for teachers and classroom games, the problem being that the front of the card will have the symbol or note and the back will give the definition. I often play memory games with students or have them choose a card, and I can't do that with these cards as they see either the answer or what they are picking up. They are a decent size and color coding is a nice touch. If you are a student who needs help at home, perhaps there is no parent who can read music etc, then these are a good way to test yourself and learn. For teachers using to play games, best to get ones with a plain backing.
